As a (partial) webdeveloper I find my self often editing my
hosts-file in order to run a website on my laptop. Since the
hosts-file only accepts no wildcards, this can be a pain.
So, I created a local DNS-server which you can run on your PC.
On startup of the program, it changes your settings of the
networkadapter in order to look at the local dns first. When shut
down, it reverts the settings.
When the program runs, you have a little icon in the
right-corner next to the clock. Right-click to shutdown or to edit
the entries. The entries allow wildcards, so if you add 'local' the
all attempts to request a .local domain will point to the IP you
have entered.
Download the zip, extract it to a
folder of your choice and start.
If you have any questions or comments, drop me a mail or send me
a tweet.
TIP: if you have a laptop and want it to work when you're
offline as well, add a loopback adapter in windows: http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-7/how-to-install-a-loopback-adapter-in-windows-7/
